The Merging of Two Worlds

Description

This is one of the first paintings i have done on such a big piece of canvas, and is also the most time consuming artwork i have done by collaboration. The red sunset was my side of the painting where i worked mostly on but i ended up doing the bright sea ans sky, the girl and the guy's hair, and helped with the bench. Currently it sits in the school library, waiting to be hung onto a wall.
I know it's not perfect in proportion but there was nothing we could do about as we were dedicating every other lunch time to finish this piece since the beginning of the year. We're leaving middle school in three weeks and we know we can't take the painting with us so we've decided to let be.

The idea
I was called into the art room one day to help reproduce one of my friend's painting in a large scale. As i have never done art in school, this whole concept and the prospect of me finally being able to paint an actual painting seemed exciting. We brainstormed ideas for it and i was thinking that the canvas was too large to reproduce the painting without it seeming boring. An idea hit me that we should split a scene into two by creating two worlds, both joined by a girl and boy sitting on a bench looking out to the sea. I realized how much a meaning it would carry to have her and her world to be in a lighter color and him and his to be dark and bold. To me they seemed merged together as though nothing as feeble as opinions could pull them apart.
I had the whole 'darker' side planned out in my mind and decided i would take that side. Another reason why that side was officially mine was because of my friend's original painting had flowers that began the whole thing in the first place. I guess i can proudly say that the theme and the concept was my idea but if it wasn't for my friend, i wouldn't have even gotten the chance.

Edit: I've finally graduated from middle school and the painting is now displayed on white wall above the door to the graphics classroom (with all the Mac laptops) in the library. The best thing about that spot is that you can see the painting once you enter the library and that we've left a brilliant legacy in our school. Cheers for many more collaborations and opportunities to come.
